Honorary Consul General

Dr Prieur du Plessis serves as Honorary Consul General of Slovenia for South Africa. His background is provided below.

With 30 years’ experience in investment research and portfolio management, Du Plessis is one of the most experienced and well-known investment professionals in South Africa. More than 1 500 of his articles on investment-related topics have been published in various regular newspaper, journal and Internet columns. He also published a book, Financial Basics: Investment, in 2002.

He is the author of two Internet newspapers, namely Investment Postcards Daily and Gorporate Governance Times.

Du Plessis is Chairman of Plexus Holdings and Grindrod Asset Management, and also serves as a member of the University of Stellenbosch Council and a director of Professional Provident Society (PPS) Holdings and the Institute of Directors (Southern Africa).

He was named 2011 Alumnus of the Year by the University of Stellenbosch Business School for outstanding business achievement. In 2001 he received the Santam/AHI Business Leader of the Year award for corporate leadership, business acumen and entrepreneurial flair. Plexus received the AHI/Old Mutual Enterprise of the Year award in 1997.

Dr du Plessis’s leisure activities include long-distance running, travelling, reading, motorcycling and scripophily. He lives with his wife, television producer and presenter Isabel Verwey, and two children in Stellenbosch. Ms Verwey is actively involved with Proud Partners – an organisation which uplifts previously disadvantaged communities through the provision of musical instruments and tuition to a large number of schools.
